One reason I didn't take this approach was because of this bug https://bugs.openjdk.java.n... basically in 1.7 + java will use the discrete graphics on the mac which means your battery life will take more of a hit, You should be able to see it under the energy tab in the activity monitor. I don't understand why that bug limits my approach. It suggests not to use Java SE 7 or higher to launch IDEA, but it doesn't affect how I configure my IDEA launcher to use Java SE 6, does it?
